Knowledge Transfer, Collaboration and Digital Transformation

The construction and operation of buildings is estimated to emit 40% of global greenhouse carbon emissions, that contribute to global warming, climate change and extreme weather events.

“If I Have Seen Further, It Is By Standing On The Shoulders Of Giants” - Sir Isaac Newton.

The construction and operation of buildings is estimated to emit 40% of global Greenhouse Carbon Emissions, that contribute to global warming, climate change and extreme weather events.

To mitigate these impacts, designers, operators and facility managers of buildings and building services must adopt new designs that include new and emerging HVAC&R technologies that minimise carbon and other harmful emissions such as PFAS and TFA. Some of these emerging technologies are not yet proven in Australia, and the use of such technology in climates such as Canberra that has weather extremes from -5⁰C to +45⁰C presents numerous challenges.

Knowledge transfer, collaboration, teamwork and innovation are essential to achieve Climate Change Mitigation and ensure the future success of success of the Building Construction and Building Services Industry, the sustainability and the very existence of life in our planet.

ESBS has played an active role in knowledge transfer through multiple fronts. These include Lasath being a sessional lecturer at the University of Canberra (UC) for six years teaching Building Services to future builders, certifiers and construction managers. ESBS was a founding contributor in 2023 to the UC Digital BIM Hub- the first such facility in Australia. ESBS staff have contributed to various publications, conference presentations and webinars and these include contributions made by Lasath during his tenure as the president of the AIRAH ACT Chapter for 5 years, and since.

Over the past 12 years, ESBS has provided technical training and internships to more than 30 recent migrants to Australia. We have also provided internships to postgraduates and undergraduates from the Australian National University, University of Canberra, and the Australian Computer Society. These efforts were recognised by the AIRAH 2022 Awards where ESBS was a finalist for Diversity and Inclusion.

Our participation in Design Reviews for several projects has been an ideal platform for knowledge transfer and collaboration. ESBS actively uses software including IES, PowerCAD, DIALux, CoilPac, Bluebeam, Revit and BIM 360 for modelling and collaboration across multi disciplines.

ESBS has also provided tailored training sessions to clients on topics such as Energy Management, Building Services and WHS, and setting up and monitoring Maintenance Contracts.
